Refurbished Modular Offices and Welfare Facilities for Banks Group
Requirement
Banks Group is a development company committed to delivering projects in a sustainable and responsible way. As part of their works at Bantycock Quarry in Newark, they required high-quality accommodation to support their on-site operations and workforce.
The accommodation needed to provide practical and comfortable facilities for both office-based staff and site operatives. Due to the nature of the quarry environment, the buildings also needed to be suitable for a busy working site with challenging ground conditions and ongoing site activity.
To support Banks Group’s sustainability goals, Portable Building Sales proposed a refurbished modular building solution. Refurbished modular buildings offer a significantly lower environmental impact compared to new manufacture, reducing embodied carbon by up to 46% while still providing a high-quality and modern working environment.
Solution
Portable Building Sales supplied and installed a refurbished 6-bay modular building alongside two portable cabins to create a complete office and welfare setup for the Bantycock Quarry site team.
The refurbished modular building now acts as the main site office and includes:
- Office space for the project and site teams
- A large meeting room
- Kitchen facilities
- Drying rooms
- Welfare and toilet facilities
A practical added feature of the building is the installation of a sliding reception window, allowing site workers to communicate directly with the office team without needing to enter the main office area. This helps maintain a controlled and efficient working environment on site. An external post box was also installed, providing a secure and convenient way for workers to drop off documents outside of office hours.
In addition, two portable cabins were supplied to further support site operations. One cabin was fitted out as a dedicated WC and shower block, while the second provides a canteen area for on-site workers.
The external finish of the buildings features standard plastisol cladding in Goosewing Grey with anthracite contrast details to the doors, windows and fascias, creating a modern and consistent appearance across the site accommodation.
Working within an active quarry environment presented some logistical challenges, particularly due to muddy site conditions during delivery and installation. However, the project was completed smoothly and successfully, with the buildings handed over ready for use in February 2026.
Following the successful delivery of this project, Portable Building Sales has established an ongoing working relationship with Banks Group and is continuing to support their fleet upgrades, with discussions already underway regarding the supply of an additional portable cabin.
