Requirement
Iceland needed a dedicated security hut at one of its warehouses to support its security team. The primary requirement was a compact space that could serve as both a staff room and a search room for security operations. GXO Logistics, collaborating with Iceland on this project, approached Portable Building Sales to find a suitable solution.
As Iceland is a well-known UK supermarket chain with locations nationwide, the additional security hut was essential to free up space in the existing warehouse. Before placing their order, the GXO Logistics team visited the Portable Building Sales factory in York. This visit included a walkthrough of various available portable buildings and stock, meetings with the sales and design teams and a factory tour to visualise the construction process and explore design options.
Solution
The security hut was part of a larger project for Iceland’s new depot. This space would serve as the site’s entry checkpoint, where visitors sign in and employees undergo exit searches. Portable Building Sales designed the hut with two distinct areas: a staff room and a search room. The layout also included a built-in worktop beneath a sliding window, eliminating the need for a separate desk.
To enhance durability and minimise maintenance, the security hut was clad with Dura composite material on all elevations, ensuring the structure remains resilient and low-maintenance over time.
We’re very pleased with our new building – it has a great exterior look, a well-thought-out internal layout, and a high specification build quality.
