We Can Still Learn About Technology From Nature!

The latest news is that US engineers have copied from nasturtium leaves and butterfly wings to create the most waterproof material ever made by man. This could keep our clothes completely dry in the rain – and would be great for the portable building industry too – if it could eventually be made inexpensive enough for everyday use in the future.

Special ridge patterns on the wings of the morpho butterfly and the veins of nasturtium leaves have been copied onto fabrics, metals and ceramics. A whole new range of moisture-resistant products is just over the horizon, apparently.

The future continues to be exciting, doesn’t it? I can remember the days when a pocket calculator was rare and exotic!
