Here at Portable Building Sales we’ve always “carried the torch” for Hull. Like any major city, Hull has areas of deprivation and some difficult social issues. Nevertheless, it has many positive attributes, which others elsewhere in the country are rarely aware of, and we certainly feel that Hull compares well with other cities. It’s great that Hull has won this opportunity to change perceptions and develop both tourism and economic possibilities – we’re delighted!

There’s no direct funding attached to the award, but Derry (the current holder) has been successful in attracting events such as the Turner Prize, Radio 1’s Big Weekend and an outdoor theatrical extravaganza developed by Frank Cotterell-Boyce, who was involved in London’s 2012 Opening Ceremony. If we follow Derry’s creative example, we can really make a difference for the whole region. Expectations are that Hull 2017 will initially bring 60 million pounds of inward investment into the city, which has got to be good news for all of us loyal local Hull supporters – and we’re hoping for lots of tourist and business converts too!
